The Mistress and Hound

 

One last job. Then she promised he would be free. He clung to this hope as he left his horse tied to the tree and strode towards the ruined temple. He wondered if she sensed his approach each time...if she sensed the hunger waking within him whenever he neared her presence. That damned hunger she’d used to control him all this time.

            He slipped through the broken gate into the sanctuary and tried to ignore the graven images of the gods and goddesses staring down at him as he approached the altar at the far end. She’d been a priestess of healing and mercy once, before the fall. Now she existed as a servant of death. What did that make him then?

The Chained Blade

 

High King Zyler Devdan scowled out through the window of his council chamber. The capital city of Ironcliff lay out below him, its various districts and streets rising on staggered shelves of rocky earth cut into the side of the mountain.He turned and regarded the prisoner. “She lived the last you saw her?”“Most High King,” said a crimson-robed regent, “you can’t possibly be taking this man’s word seriously.” He flung a hand at the man chained before the council.

Angweneth's Escape

 

he slammed against the stone of the cave wall. Her arms were tied behind her back and she was unable to shield herself from the impact. Anger welled in her chest. She was aggravated that she'd allowed herself to be captured by a group of bandits. Sneaks with tricks. There was no respect in their trade, a warrior fought her battles facing her foe. A few breaths calmed her down enough to think. Her captors were standing behind her, their voices barely audible.

The Fall and Redemption of Davaldion

 

Selina’s heart pounded as she ran through the forest, her arm outstretched as her guardian Damitri guided her through the thick undergrowth.“Quickly,” he hissed, “they are gaining on us.”

 

His warning rang true as two of their pursuers sprang from the undergrowth, their obsidian blades glowing with a purple fire. Yet for all their cunning their ambush was for nought, as Damitri quickly threw Selina to the ground before drawing his own silvered blade in a swift arc. Such a sense of honed purpose and precision, it caused the attackers to freeze in their steps as the first of
